Connection is so important being a single parent, because social connection scientifically has many significances. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association, “social connection can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems” (Scottatmachine, 2021).
What an amazing discovery that has on our generation, to know that social connection has a direct affect on our health. Now that we know this information, we must use it to create a healthy community which means a community for each and every person.
Single parents are a community on their own, and many sit back and watch the stigma and stereotypes surrounding single parenthood and hide from the spotlight because it’s mostly frowned upon by society. Sometimes people don’t have a choice in being a single parent. Sometimes people choose to be single parents but others fall into the category of a single parent not by choice.
Being connected is so important so that single parents are not falling through the cracks and feeling disconnected to society. Lets break the stigmas and stereotypes of single parenthood, and make it easier for single parents to feel accepted everywhere they go.
What makes you feel connected in this society?
