Being a single parent means we might have to navigate the court systems in BC. This can be a challenging process, but the process becomes easier with the help of Legal Aid BC and the lawyer they assign to you.

First off, you will want to see if you qualify for legal aid. The easiest way to do this is to contact Legal Aid to see if you are eligible for legal assistance. I’ll put the contact information at the bottom.

Usually, you would go through a preliminary application through Legal Aid when you first apply, so your lawyer will have an idea of how they are assisting you. Your assigned lawyer will reach out to you to discuss your family law matters.

Every lawyer is unique in that they come with various skills. If you can find a lawyer that you really like, then ask that lawyer to represent you through Legal Aid. Otherwise, Legal Aid will assign a lawyer for you.

Sometimes a lawyer doesn’t work well with you. If this is the case, you would want to reach back out to Legal Aid and let them know what the issues are. Every case is unique, so if you have questions regarding this, please contact legal aid.

If you have questions about your case and just want to talk to someone, there are other family law legal advice services.
